I was at a conference last year when they were saying how much time, money and research had gone into the next generation of Oracle apps for usability.

They were so proud of how much more they had spent this time round compared to previous versions.

It was a brave soul that piped up "that's because the last version had about 15 quid spent on usability"...

The SAPUI5 (HTML5) based Fiori frontend investment seems to be working right for them on both Netweaver based or HANA based platforms.

That is definitely money well spent.

They do seem to be getting it a bit more now - I've not seen SAP but Peoplesoft 9.2 and Oracle Fusion do at least have some degree of usability, if it's implemented correctly.

But having seen my client go from Oracle to Peoplesoft because they didn't like the Oracle screens, I can only imagine that the problem was that they didn't like their own corporate colour scheme because they look the bloody same and are a pig to use.

Isn't Peoplesoft a HR thing Oracle purchased a few years ago? I was under the impression that Oracle had b@sterdised Peoplesoft well enough to make it look like one of their own !

As for SAP, it has always been a twat of a frontend with a very powerful and capable backend. They tried fingering SAP frontend using JAVA in the past until Oracle purchased it. SAP then tinkered around with WebDynpro using ABAP for sometime till they realised that it is too specialised a product and not really userfriendly both for users and developers.
The more recent b@sterdisation of HTML5 as SAPUI5 is clicking quite well through Rapid Deployment. Wonder what's going on in ze German brains
