    Why Thatcher is hated

The left hate her because she dismantled the intstitutions of socialism and she exposed as a myth that socialism is in any way benign. Before she arrived there were plenty enjoying the riches and privileges that were thanks to her to become available to everyone, from Essex boys working on trading floors and earning loads of money to free and prosperous IT specialists who were released from the shackles of outdated IT departments to build systems that would enable businesses to rid themselves of costly labour intensive practices and compete in International markets.

The Trade Unionists, the Public servants the political classes and the leaders of the Nationalised industries were the priviliged closed shop beneficiaries of the state controlled economy. These people did not want to have their positions, their entitlement and their power taken away. They most certainly did not want common little oiks to own their own homes and become free to freelance their skills and build new businesses. Even today these people who found it quite disgusting that poor people could become rich sneer and accuse (everyone else) of being materialistic and selfish.

One of Thatchers great strengths was that she had no truck with the vested interests of the ruling and priviliged elite.

Most of those who "hate " her try to hide their reasons for doing so behind some of the irrelevant failings of her time (Poll tax - how long did that last?) the sinking of the Belgrano just because it was "going in the opposite direction". These people also whine on about the destruction of mining communities (you are not kidding anyone - you dont give a sh*t). I am sorry but I will accept such arguments from the likes of Neil Kinnock and the miners themselves but not spoilt and prosperous middle class liberals with a feigned conscience but no intention of sharing out their own wealth.

No one here or anywhere for that matter is arguing for a return to the bankrupt union dominated economy that existed prior to the arrival of Thatcher. why not? No what they do not like is the fact that they have no moral high ground to hide their own selfish greed. Socialism and socialists have been exposed for what they are -no use to anyone but themselves.. thank you maggie for pointing it out.

I saw first hand the misery people experienced bcause of her policies. That's not partisan politics just plain and simple suffering and these people should be grateful?

Get yer head out of yer arse for once.

If you read what I said I did not include these people at all. Let me ask you why the rest of the country should be forced to subsidise these people when they were working in a protected industry churning out products that could have been bought cheaper elsewhere. They were educated and brought up to expect nothing more than to spend their lives in the mines. The rest of us have to adapt to change none more so than because people like you build systems that remove the need to use labour. How do you feel about that hypocrite?

Most people would agree with you and would not support keeping industries propped up, but to just close them with no concern for the communities left barren, is why she is hated. My grandfather worked in a Steel works and it was closed and the towns around it are still ruined.

You have enriched yourself thanks to the policies of Margaret Thatcher yet you hate her for breaking up communities. I presume this "break up" manifests itself in people losing their jobs. No matter then that these jobs were working for inefficient heavily subsidised nationalised Industries and closed shop union controlled enterprises (like the Times newspaper group). OK fine fair (if misguided) point. How then does your concern for jobless communities square with you working in an industry making loads of money for yourself paying little tax only to create systems that take people out of jobs?

what else should she have done? The unions only wanted to fight her and give away nothing so they were not about to agree any compromises.

Close them yes, feck the unions, but gradual with plenty of alternatives, programmes, training and encourage private sector to come in to take the place. This has probably happened now in a lot of places but it should have been planned much better so it was seamless.

I presume they are all socialist run councils with socialist run schools. If the poor of asia can build businesses and Eastern Europeans can travel thousands of miles to pick fruit then why cant they do it? or do you believe that the rest of us owe them a living? I presume you care so much about them that over the years you have volunteered vast amounts of your tax free earnings from building job destroying IT systems to support them?
