    New contracts

Morning all. Just looking around for a new contract after a few years with my current client. Was wondering where which job aggregation sites you all use these days as neither Jobserve/Monster etc. seem to have much on it. Was just wondering if the contract hunting landscape has changed over the last year or so?

    Thanks in advance.

I found my last 2 roles on LinkedIn (actually they found me).

If I see anything at all for any decent rates on Jobserve, it always happens to be quite a large number of Investment bank or hedge fund roles that pays upwards of 600.

There are practically no other roles (decent paying) these days in Jobserve (specifically .NET)

The thing that makes it look funny in Jobserve, is that it looks like there are many of these bank jobs at high paying rates on a daily basis, meaning that there are a very high number of these banking contractors leaving their contracts on a daily basis , thereby generating so many jobs every day.

I can't imagine such high rate contractors sitting around doing nothing waiting for new bank roles to be available so they can apply for them.

      Something is not correct

I think most of the jobserve roles are either fake or are just a CV fishing activity rather than real roles.

LinkedIn or direct personal contacts with ClientCo(s) looks like the best bet these days IMHO.

It's not immediately obvious how to use LinkedIn to drum up trade though.

Welcome to contracting. Affecting most of that. It's difficult to be exact but these sites used to be the mainstay with linkedin and networking helping the more experienced guys. Not sure if it's swung the other way but for newbies they are still the main source until they get going.

Thanks NL. Not new to contracting (16 years now!!) but also not much of a "networker" either, and have been in last role for a few years. Looking for roles elsewhere now - something different perhaps, so have kind of lost touch with where all of the jobs live.

Thanks Cojak. Must get my head around Linkedin at some point.

LI is wank. OK, cojak has picked up a couple of contacts but imho, if they'd have left the same details with the previous client as they did on LI, the client would likely have contacted them anyway.

When I was on LI, I networked with a lot of people. When I was looking for work, not one of them contacted me about jobs despite me being very proactive and putting job adverts their way when they were looking.

Actually, I tell a lie. One person who'd Id known for nearly 20 years did contact me about a couple of jobs.

If people got that response from jobserve they'd be slagging it off for fun.

yes, searching for jobs on LI seems to list only permie jobs.

You've either missed the point of the comment you replied to or you've missed the point of LI... So generally you've missed the point.
