Well yes. You can stay permie and build up your skills and experience of course.
Does experience affect my chances even if I go for lower daily rates?

I'd say won't help in my field but don't really know about BAs. It's not like permie world where you get paid for your capability. The client has a role and that's it. If the rate is that bad no one will go for it you might have a chance but there are people that have the experience but it's local or convenient or something as well so will take a lesser role.

There is also the fact that you are only as good as your last gig so it's going to be very difficult for you to grow. Again contracting doesn't really support career progression.

Maybe hang around until some of the others turn up though. I've got a views on this situation so possibly can't give the advice you need.

Question for you in the meantime. You've spent years studying.. To do what.. The same thing albeit paid well for the foreseeable future.

You not have any career aspirations of see where you could get to before you take that skill and get paid well for it?

I was going to write that but didn't know exactly how to put it.

Anyway OP - do you want a chance to see how far you can go up the career ladder? Do you want an opportunity to move sideways and do some role that is new? There are quite a few IT roles that didn't exist 5 years ago let alone 10 years ago.

If you become a contractor then it's much harder to do this. If however you move permie jobs of the company doesn't suit you it's easier.

I want to contract in order to fund my studies in Film-making. The move is to change my career line.
I want a contract for not more than 2 years as I need the savings to get by and the film schools are bloody expensive.

IMO at the rates you are maybe talking and the amount of time you are going to spend on the bench you won't be saving much money.

Would a daily rate of 300-350 be in the higher or lower range?

Depends where in the country but who is going today 350 quid for someone with 3 years work experience? I was thinking by 175 to 200
