Canon S70 Wide Imaging Stereo loudspeakers

I bought a pair of these beauties at the weekend, intending to wire them up to my Dolby 5.1 receiver. They use Canon’s proprietary wide imaging stereo which fired the soundwaves down onto a polished cone, thus spreading the soundwaves across a wider area, with the intention of creating a wider stereo ‘hotspot’. To look at they resemble mushrooms.

I’m slightly confused by the wiring ‘though. There are 2 outputs from each speaker, one for treble, one for bass, each with +ive and -ive wiring. Has anyone had experience of these and how the wiring to the amp/receiver should work? I bought them 2nd hand, so no instruction manual, and finding info on the web for these speakers is like pulling hen’s teeth.

So could I perhaps wire the treble circuit for each speaker to the receiver and the bass circuit to an active subwoofer? The sub is in turn connected coaxially to the receiver – this presumably achieves the effect of the bass circuits being wired in. I expect I’d have to tone down the bass kick in the sub, as the inbuilt subs in the Canons supposedly deliver some welly.

bi amp or bi-wire?

I would be surprised if they need biamping. quite a few speakers around for bi-wiring though. people used to run different cables to each terminal - alternatively just links them +ve to +ve and -ve to -ve
