Anybody know where IO can get hold of a decent software RS232 simulator. I am developing some code to communicate with a device for which I have the spec but no device yet.
Just do what I did (whilst writing an SMS application):
1. Use a null modem cable between COM1 and COM2.
2. Write an app that emulates the protocol (trivial!) in .Net 2.0 (hint: System.IO.Ports) and bind it to a COM port. Fairly simple async single threaded server except over RS232 stream rather than a network stream.

Helpful suggestion but:-
- Only got one phyiscal com port (it's a notebook, the code is running in a VMWare VM and there is only one available com port). Ok, I could hook it up to the COM port on another machine.
- More importantly. I really can't be bothered.
There must be a shareware one available somewhere, but stuffed if I can find it.
I use a simple software monitor to analyse the data, just want a bit more than that so I can make up the responses.
