How to I transfer an AVI file to iPad ?

    I don't have a Mac.

But I have a PC with many AVI files, DVDs that I've ripped, some stuff I've downloaded. I'm led to believe that there's several iPad video player apps that will play AVI formats, and I have one installed. Can't test it without an AVI file though!

However I just can't coax an AVI file onto my iPad.

iTunes add file to library let's me choose an AVI file then does nothing.
Bigasoft iPad transfer doesn't include AVI files in its list of supported video files.
iMacsoft iPad to PC transfer won't transfer AVI files.
iExplorer is supposed to let me mount an iPad directory as a Windowd drive and copy files in using Explorer. Does not work. Crashes.

I don't want to "convert" my AVI files to MP4 format. I just want to copy them.

    Any ideas?

Download IVI from App Store, 2.49 or something, on your Mac drag avi onto it, let it get the poster art, movie details etc, quick look to see if they are as expected, usually are, click convert, and it's in iTunes as if you paid for it.

Then either stream it with Home sharing if at home, if away, sync it either wirelessly or via cable to the iPad.

If your on Windows go to Apple (United Kingdom) and pay for a Mac.

        OK cracked it.

the "Oplayer" app has a built in FTP client that let's me squirt videos to the iPad.

        And it works!

        (after hours of mucking about)

You can try iPad File Explorer, help you to copy and transfer files between iPad, iPhone and PC computer like as if it were a flash disk, including transferring AVI files to iPad.
For details, read an guide on Transferring AVI files from Computer to iPad.

I use Playable Pro which allows you to upload via iTunes and also has an FTP server option as well.
