Replacement battery for Dell XPS laptop

So, the battery has died and I need to get a new one. Should I bend over and buy a Dell branded one, or is it worth skimping and getting a cheaper one? Advice from those who understand these computers greatly appreciated.

I presume you've had it more than 1 year?

If you're planning to keep it for a couple more years they buy a dell one and then get it replaced as faulty before the next 12 months are up

Having recently had the battery in my HP laptop die I can sympathise. In many cases the battery can cost almost as much as the laptop is worth. And for older laptops - finding an original can be impossible.

In your case I'd say that if you want to save money but take a risk then buy a compatible one. Or you can consider what I'm doing...replaceing the actual cells. Good thing I can solder.

And looking at the prices of XPS on the dell site...

As an owner of an XPS laptop myself I would not even think of buying anything other than a dell branded battery from dell directly. I paid over a grand for it and don't think its worth risking an investment of > 1000 to save a few quid. (Its definitely worth purchasing the high capacity battery as mine is still going strong after almost 2 years)

Did you put 8GB of RAM in it yet?

Thanks all. I've had it 3 1/2 years so can't complain too much but it works nicely. Not keen on stumping up £115 for a Dell battery - and am tempted to run it without a battery at home, as I have a netbook for when I'm out and about.

Will think on it.
