O2 dongles and working with PuTTY (drops connections constantly)

Got a PAYG O2 dongle today for working on the move.

As the title says it drops connection to putty constantly, every 5 minutes and then I have to log back in which is a pain as I often use 2 or 3 windows. Both on 3G and BTOpenZone connections.

I used to connect through my orange phone and never had a problem with this.

    Is this a known issue?

PuTTY has a keepalive option per connection. Set to 50% of your current disconnection time (150 seconds). Also consider using 'screen' on the server: Speaking UNIX: Stayin' alive with Screen
