    Return to desktop on Mac?

    Minor annoyance on my Mac (Snow Leopard) - can't work out a way to minimise all open windows and return to the desktop - similar to hitting the desktop taskbar shortcut in Windows.

    Googling suggested F11 but that's volume on mine (and none of the other F's do it either) or to map the scroll wheel click to desktop (don't seem to have the ability to do that). Clicking blank space in the dock doesn't do the trick either.

    Sure i'm missing some really obvious way?

    Under system preferences select

    Hardware --> Keyboard

    Then select the keyboard tab and check the box 'Use all F1, F2 etc keys as standard function keys'

    That will do what you want. You'll then have to use them with the fn button for volume controls.

      Wohoo! Yep, that did the trick. Ta.

      F11 now does the job.
