Excel 2007 (under XP) refuses to read .xlsx files?

    Anyone got any idea why?

    Error message is
"Excel cannot open the file 'aaa.xlsx' because the file format or file exntension is not valid. verify that file has not been corrupted and that the file format matches the extension of the file".

Yes can do that. The files I can't read come from a book's website ...

Don't you need to download the xls patch for 2007 to work with that file type?

Its "VBA for Modelers" by Albright. But it needs a code.
I could send that to you but that may be a breach of contract blah blah. and as its company property I can't risk it.

Eh? No xlsx is the standard 2007 type.

OK fixed. I had unzipped them on one machine and copied to the Excel machine.
When I unzipped directly on the Excel machine it worked.
                Don't know why

Thanks for trying to help SC and MM.
Now its time to see just what tulip hot modeling this Albright chappie does.
