Easy to use DVD / Hard Drive recorder

My folks recently upgraded their TV to freeview, and are now looking to replace their malfunctioning VHS recorder.

I'm a bit stumped as to what to advise them. I've looked on Amazon and yes there's a good selection of DVD/HD Freeview recorders out there, but I'm concerned that (1) these all cost around £250 (expensive) and (2) they'd need a degree in advanced engineering to figure it out.

Can anyone recommend an easy to use machine, one they've used and are happy with?

    Ta!

Easiest I've ever used is Sky+
    Hardly fits the spec though

I would recommend the hard drive recorders over the DVD ones though, unless they really have to archive everything they record
    Coffee's for closers

Agree, but they didn't want Sky

They do want a DVD recorder to be able to save certain shows. But HDD would be best for everyday usage.
