    XP Vs Vista

    Gonna buy a new laptop tomorrow, it'll come bundled with Vista, I've run XP SP3 for ages. Pros and cons anyone ? (GUI's not important, I'm old fashioned).

    Yep. Vista = tulip. Doesn't run SAS.

      Most new laptops now are being sold with the promise of a free copy of Windows 7 once it's released.

      Only problem is, thanks to the EU Microsoft won't be releasing an upgrade version in Europe so it'll have to be a wipe and a clean install

        Given that I would wait until Windows 7. Is it being released in October?

            My new, top of the range, vista laptop has comparable performance to my 5 year old XP desktop.

              I hate vista.

              everytime you want to do something it asks for 'permission'.

              everytime you want to find something in control panel its hard to find.

              I can't figure out how to set up a guest account that can actually do anything without continually asking for 'permission'.

              Never had any problems with XP SP3.

              I would say wait for Windows 7.

                It went RTM yesterday, so hopefully it'll make an appearance on MSDN/TechNet soon as well.

                EDIT: the English version looks to be available on MSDN and TechNet from August 6th.

                  Why the fook does it do that? "Are you sure you want to run this program" crap.

                  I go out and bought a grand laptop, went on the internet and downloaded eclipse, unzipped the package and run the exe every time I start up the thing. Why does it still ask me "Are you sure you want to run this program"?

                  <mild rant over/>

                    The first thing I did on my Vista systems was to turn that off, the UAC is a pain.
                    Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
