The thing i miss most about VAX VMS....

The thing i miss most about VAX VMS is the editor that has 2 clipboards. Are there any windoze editors with 2 clipboards? Prefrably similar in functionality to textpad.

The things I miss about VAX/VMS are:
      1. Its sheer simplicity
      2. Consistency
      3. Never crashed
      4. Useful and understandable help system
      5. EDT (yes I miss all those keystrokes)
This default font is sooooooooooooo boring and so are short usernames

Ah, TPU with an EDT keypad - the business!

DCL, and across-the-board simplicity and consistency.

I still refer to a book 'Unix for VMS users' when I have to delve back into unix and it always strikes me just how damm good VMS was compared to other OSs.

Weren't DEC the second biggest computer firm in the world in the early nineties?

Must have been the VAXMate that scuppered them

yes. And on its own VAX would have been 2nd and PDP 4th.

I liked EDT so much I got the version that ran on a PC.

Its been more than 15 years since I used EDT or TPU last - the ability to quickly record keystrokes and replay it nnnn times to edit multiple lines in a file was fantastic.

I don't think I could go back to it now - at least I don't have to edit multiple lines in a file anymore!

                I forgot one:

                6. The search facility - very easy to use especially when recursing directories

Never had much to do with VAXen but used to use a PDP 11/40 and 11/60 in my very first job but don't really reemmber too much but if you're harking back to those days then have a look at :

I remember when status was having a VT420 terminal on your desk, so you could have 2 sessions open.
