site search

i've tried google (needs adverts) and tried bing/live search (simply pants). i've rolled my own (requires real-time spidering). has anyone used a site search tool that you can embed in a site ( using c#) , that searches only that site, stays on that site and which can have indexing on sql server or not, and which enables good paging and ui design?

Not used the Google search API for a while but why does it need ads? Surely the data can be formatted and displayed however you wish.

Or try: http://www.google.com/sitesearch/ looks like its ad free and can be branded as yourCo.

Google search is only ad-free if you pay an annual fee. Otherwise it serves up lots of ads.

Looks like $100/year for a site with up to 1000 pages which to me sounds like a good deal for what is realistically by far the best search tech.

You could use something like http://www.codeproject.com/KB/applic...rchDotnet.aspx but by the time you've read the docs and implemented it, thats way more than $100 of your time gone.

I've used it and at $100 pa it is good value, reliable, excellent search algorithm.

yes. i've still to get the site indexed. maybe a quick pm to alexei would do the trick. i was more concerned with getting some half decent paging implemented first, beyond the straightforward bracketing and look-ahead stuff that google et al prefer.
