Numeric formatting in XL

Is there a way I can format a cell in Excel so that the data shown will always contain the same number of digits?

E.g

Numbers in the range 0-9 will display as: 000x

Numbers in the range 10-99 will display as: 00xx

etc

Can you expand on that? Are you referring to conditional formating?

Go to Format -> Cells
On the Number tab, select Custom
In the Type box, enter 0000

Yup.

Select cells / rows / columns you wish to apply the formatting to then...

from the menu choose Format - Cells - Custom (may depend on version of excel)

Enter a custom format of 0000



That should do it.
