Been looking at this as a potential cms for a client. Anyone got any experience with it? By the looks of it it looks pretty simple once you're up and running - I have 2 main questions:

    1) Does it take much to get it running?
    2) How easy is it to create a new skin - i.e. I have a site design that I have to use - how easy is it to define the page areas such that it can be integrated with the DNN engine?

    Thanks

No, dead easy, the installer version takes a few minutes to get up and running.

Very easy. Just download zip file. Setup IIS, Create a blank SQL db. Navigate to default.aspx. You then get a wizard, that will guide you through the rest

Skinning can be quite tricky. I have done a few sites now. What I tend to do is buy a standard XHTML from one of the template companies, and then hack it to turn it into a skin for DNN. You can also buy loads of pre-built skins on snowcovered. As a rough estimate, it took me about 20hours to convert a standard XHTML into a skin. Most of this time was spent fiddling with the css to get it exactly right.

This is a good book to help you with skinning: linky

Cool - thanks Durbs and FSM. I have the HTML/css already - just need to convert it, so I'm hoping this wont be too big a task!

        Cheers

Getting DNN to inject the content isn't too difficult. Where it tends to get tricky is when there are css clashes between your css and the core dnn.

Also the menu system can make a mess of your page (it sticks a load of tables in), so its best to use something like HouseOfNuke to give you a clean XHTML output.
