    Sony Vaio laptops

    Anyone have one?

What have your experiences been like?

    Are they well built? Reliable?

Thinking of pushing the boat out and getting one before the end of the month.

Currently got my eye on a Z Series.

    Possibly not helpful, but...

I have a Sony Vaio FX201. It is now very old. Like all the other Sony things I have bought it was expensive, well made, pretty and it works very well. Support is hideously expensive and poor and notorious for being so. Accessories are easy enough to come by but only for a short while; even the specialist Sony shops do not stock them after a short while. However, Ebay fixes that problem these days.

I use this laptop every day that I bought in 2001. The battery life never was over about 23 minutes (yes, for real). It has had a new hard disk, RAM and processor but they were upgrades; the only failures in it was the processor fan (I should not have had that running SETI@Home 24/7 on a laptop processor - that was stoopid) and the rubber pads underneath have melted and make a mess.

Wife's got one. Not sure of the series (maybe F?).
It's pretty standard, is well made and runs ok (MS office & Web browsing).

My mate has one of the tiny ones (TZ?). Looks pretty cool, runs ok.

I bought the VGN series. Apart from the crap I have installed on it, it's done it's purpose. Never really had to contact support. Build is ok. Compared to Dell, it's money well spent.

            I've got a VGN-AR51J

Bought it XMas 2007 - I like it.

When it comes to replacing it then I'll buy another Sony.

I looked into getting one a while back and there was a distinct lack of outputs on the thing. No HDMI, no SVideo etc etc. So I went for something else instead.

I bought mine in about Nov. / Dec. 2007. The laptop I use has a HDMI port built in.

Exact same model I have. It will last me a few more years.

Me too, SVGA, S-Video, Optical Audio, HDMI, Blue Ray, Firewire, USB, WiFi, Modem, Fast Ethernet. The only bugbear is that it doesn't have internal Blue-tooth.

Easily resolved with a USB adapter.
