THose USB wireless dongles dont have much power going to them so this can cause all sorts of issues. Even if it reports conencted it often haasn;t done it properly. I had the same issue with mine about 10 metres from the router through a brick wall - it couldnt connect. Replaced it with a USB wireless card and it all worked fine
