Well the 10.5.6 update also turns some Macs into a handy desk lamp allegedly.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

Looks like I got off lightly then.

And who asked you for your invaluable input, exactly?

I saw the topic and felt that I just had to join in.

Hmm, a couple of weeks ago I treated myself to a Lacie DVD external burner for my Mac, and I could have done the same with whoever put together the software installation CD.

            More than once.

Then repeat for Roxio (Toast) and HP (Lightscribe).

            Proper Pitiful.

Oh sorry, got carried away with the rant...

No problems with Apple's Security Update here (10.4.11 on a PPC system).

Already updated and have no problems - but now I'm worried...

What iMac are you using? I'm using the last of the all white models... Have you made any hardware modifications?

Do Mac's not have system restore points then?
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

They don't need them. It isn't possible for a Mac to go wrong in any way.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

It's the 24" last of the all whites, like yours. No hw mods except installing 8Gb of Kingston memory.

My iMac is about as vanilla as they come hardware-wise.

It seems a lot of people are stuffed with this update, in various ways. Not always to the point of non-bootability, but random apps stop working, erratic behaviour etc.

Must have been a 'Friday Patch'

Sort of. That's how I recovered from brick world.
