Keep losing connection to Netgear wireless router

I keep losing my internet connection. Most commonly this happens when my laptop (windows vista home edition) has been in sleep mode, though the connection also drops out while I am browsing too. The icon on the task bar tells me I'm connected ok but there is just no connectivity. The only way to resolve the issue is to pull the power cable out the back of the router, wait a few seconds and plug it back. Then I reconnect and everything is ok until the next time it happens. It drives me mad! Anyone got any ideas?

label your connection with a big bright post it note saying "connection" that way you wont lose it..

unfortunately i believe it's most likely down to your brand of "Buy cheap, cuy twice" router

      other disgruntled netgear customers

try updating the firmware, you should be able to download from netgears site, alternatively buy a better brand router

I had this with my old Netgear, the only way i found to resolve it was to upgrade the router to the next model up. I tried firmware etc and it made no difference. In the end the unreliability of it drove me to the shop and I got a new one.

Thanks for the advice. Any recommendations? I paid 80 quid for my Netgear router about 2 years ago, how much should I be looking at paying for a half decent one?

In my opinion, go for a Belkin!! You can get a good one for the same price.

It's worth trying a different channel, especially if you can see other wireless networks nearby as you may be getting interference.

When you're connected what is the signal strength like (poor, good, excellent, etc)?
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

The router is losing connection to the Internet, not losing connection to PC, if I read it correctly.

                  Signal strength is always excellent

Exactly, it is the router losing connection to the Internet connection that's the issue.
