Phone over ethernet over powerlines?

So, I've just moved house and annoyingly there isn't a phone socket anywhere near where the Sky box is going to live. I'm not keen on running an extension as it's a rented place so here's my somewhat convoluted idea...

Often in offices phones are cabled using ethernet cables with adapters.

I have a couple of homeplugs that allow ethernet over mains.

Can I get a couple of adapters and run a phone signal over the mains using these? I've googled and can't find anything.

Ideas anyone?

I'd say no.

Ethernet (cat cabling) is digital where as phone lines are analogue. The converters I am 99% sure won't be looking for an analogue singal.

Just get some DECT phones.

I would but I need to have the Sky box plugged into a phone socket.

just realised, you probably meant the power to ethernet converters which would only br broadcasting the digital component over the power supply

I have tried this (telephone over mains) with Devolo home plugs and the answer is no.
The other thing you cant do is use port doublers/splitters such as coolport.

I contacted Devolo who told me "This connection does not support the ethernet specification IEEE 802.3. Only standard compliant ethernet connections can be replaced with dLAN Adapters."

Why are you plugging in your Sky box in the first place?

Remember what's in the Sky box is an old analogue modem, and I'm not sure how well one of those would work over a DECT thingy.

The phones in your office are probably using CAT5 sockets, which although the same are used for ethernet doesn't mean that the phones are working over ethernet. So ethernet devices like the power line access points aren't going to help you in the slightest.
