When is a developer not a devloper?

A question I need to answer myself.

We are getting Oracle to replace the blood and guts approach to patching existing disperate systems.

I am running a training course on the basics of testing techniques, and introducing people to component testing from a BVA and EP level - baby steps and all of that. Think of CMM level 1 and aspirational.

I have been advised not to call the developers 'Developers'. Boss has mooted the term 'Application Builders'.

Any ideas what I can call a 'developer' to include apps guys etc?

Also..... I have been asked to put this in as part of the joining instructions - the learning something aspect appears a little heavy to me. How can I tone this down so not to pise people off??

"Please note that no specific preparation is necessary, but please be prepared to tackle an exercise and a fun quiz at the end to show that you have learned something."
