    Anybody recommend a 1 U server ?

    Requirement :

    1 or 2 U
    To be a Value model. ( hp , dell , etc )

    Desirable :

To be virtualization ready /designed for ( whatever that means )
Has a CPU that can run either 32 bit or 64 bit OS.

HP 145 were ok when I tested them a few years ago, did some comparison testing against their bigger brothers the 385 and they were exactly the same performance wise. they come with 2 x dual core AMD procs so it is in essence a quad processor box, I think they will take up to 16GB of memory as well if memory servers me right.

And they're cheap, and 32/64 bit compatible out of the box
Some people are like slinkys, totally pointless but the thought of pushing them down a flight of stairs never fails to put a smile on your face.

Dell power edge 1950. Recommended by Xen for their virtualisation offering.

+1 for the poweredge, but do factor in that they are a little more power hungry than some other 1U servers. Some external hosts may charge you more if you are colocating it with them.
