    Domain renewal

What do I need to do to ensure that the domain name that I registered when I started contracting gets renewed? The ISP I used made the original registration when I signed up for their service so I was not involved and it has now been about 2 years since that was done.

I currently use the domain for email and I am in the process of implementing a website so I don't want to lose it. Besides it is on all of MyCo's stationery.

    Advice please!!

Just renew it. Contact the ISP and tell them that you either want to renew it or transfer it to another registrar.

One problem you may come accross is if the ISP actually owns the domain and were letting you use it.

If this is the case they may try and sell the domain on to you and refuse to pass it accross unless you meet thier price.

In future i would suggest making sure that any domains you buy are registered to either you or your company.

First, use Whois or a version of it on a registrars site to figure out when it expires. You can see who really owns it then and also the e-mail address to which reminders will be sent.
