Mfg applications. Bill of Materials & Low level codes.

I believe there is a nifty logic for identifying a potential indefinite loop within a multi-level product structure, when adding a new item to the structure.

It involves the use of what is commonly called a Low Level Code.

Does anyone know this logic or can point me in the right direction ?

Most searches I do, lead to pages that mention low level codes (LLCs) but do not explain how LLCs prevent creating indefinite structure loops.
