    Disaster Recovery

Can anyone recommend a good tool for recovering hard drive data after a crash or format. Preferably a free, or not too expensive one?

    Thanks, Carol

    Carol,

What are you trying recover and what are you recovering from ? Have you had a physical disk problem or is it the filesystem that is screwed. It does make a big difference.

There are plenty of free/cheap tools for recovering files from windows disks after partial drive failure or quick format/repartition. I dont think you will find anything cheap for recovering from a full format.

Also depends on what data you are trying to recover. In the worst cases you can extract partial data and stich it together, but obviously that works better for text files than it does for say Oracle dataspaces.
