    Compression Utilities

Anybody know any compression utilities other than Stuffit that

    a) Compress files in SIT(MAC) and ZIP(PC) formats. Any others are a bonus

    b) Have a documented API to automate creation of archives etc

Begs the question, "Why do you need .sit archives?"

Mac supports zip etc. You have Unix underneath which has various compression utils.

If you want Mac compatible then simply use the imaging tool that comes with OS X.

        OH,

Clients need to download files from the server and most Mac Users use Stuffit Expander as their compression utility. So would like to provide zip files in a compression format which match most of the mac user bases prefered compression utility.

Assuming your server is a PC (spit) then zip works for all.

Suspect I have missed the point somewhere.
