    cadstar

Don't suppose anyone knows anything about CadStar by any chance?

Specifically how do I get the @#%$ thing to put apertures at the centre of pads when I print the layer out?

Beats the crap out of me.

I've even tried GCPrevue to look at the Gerber files, but lo! they ain't got apertures either.

Never had this problem with Vutrax or Orcad.

    Well well, It censors g o d d a m n....

CadStar, GCPrevue, Gerber files, apertures, Vutrax, Orcad? I would love to help Zeit, really I would, as you are definitely my favourite 63rd dimensional alien on CUK, but unfortunately I have never heard of any of them. I doubt anyone this side of Azathoth ever has.

PS Ah yes! The Akashic Records (the version of the internet used by cosmically conscious types like myself) indicates it is PCB design software. I would download the FREE express version as I can never resist anything that is free but as it requires a lot of filly in stuff I cannot be bothered. Pity, with my colossal genius I was bound to spot the solution in nanoseconds. I have a little PCB drilly thing you could borrow.

      Thanks for that Xogg.

I had a feeling it might be a long shot...

As for the pcb drilly thingy, I've got one of those.

The problem is getting the little dot at the centre of the pads so I can drill it more easily.

Unfortunately the chap who knew how to do this ( my immediate predecessor) has predeceased me to a higher plane.

which is a bit awkward really.

Think I'll get the ouja board out... is there anybody there, knock once for yes, knock twice for no... knock 3 times if you know anything about CadStar.

I know about Vutrax, gerber files etc. I must be very clever that's all I can say....

          Oh well.

No one seems to know anything about this, so I'll have to use a drilly thing to drill holes in the screen to see if that makes it better...

You are probably the last person (using the term in an honorary sense) in the UK who is actually doing anything remotely tangible. Printed circuit boards?? good god! How quaint! Everyone who is anyone is into futures or spread betting or invisibles or commodities or writing software to shuffle money to trade things that can be traded for other things or more probably for virtually trading virtual services to virtually trade potential future virtual services as the very concept of "things" is so outmoded these days and it no longer matters what we are trading or virtually trading or virtually financing, indeed we have quite forgotten but that' s progress and I have no doubt that's where our future lies. Where? I've fogotten.

10 to 8 in the morning, that's quite funny, more so by dint of it's accuracy.

It's funny, but it's also rather sad.

After 30 years in industry, I'm now working in education.

And I don't think that the quality of student has improved since I was a student at this college 30 years ago...

The lack of interest from the more capable in anything with a mathematical or engineering content is quite striking.

                It's the HHGTTG come true.

We are the Golgafrinsham Ark Fleet.

All that will be left is the Media Studies gimps making films about each other.

On their far east designed & manufactured kit.

                  Re: even at

                  Hi, guys.

                  There is a "special library".

However, it isn't sufficient on its own to generate pads with apertures.

After much effort, it transpires that under Settings/Assignment/Pads you can select "Annulus" instead of "circle" as the pad type.

And it has to be the particular pad type used on the pcb of course.

As obscure methods of doing something easy, this plainly takes the biscuit...

Not forgetting to set the size of the hole to something other than zero, like 20 thou, of course...

So now I don't have blind pads.

And fewer (I hope) broken drills.

                  cheers,
                  Zeit.

                    Re: even at

I knew that, although it had briefly slipped my mind. I was just going to post to tell. The bloke who delivered our coal this morning reminded me how to do pads in Cadstar while we were chatting about bird feeders. Apparently everyone knew except you. Everyone is laughing at you.
