    win 2k password user accont locked

    I have been struggling to resolve this problem (My friend has forgotten his logon password)since lunctime yesterday.

    I have done the following so far;

    1. Booted up with the Linux boot disk and attempted to reset the admin password. The Admin and Guest account is locked or disabled. After every account unlock and password change, the change appear to be written to SAM, but I just found out this morming that the SAM is read only.
    Can't find the user account is SAM either.

    2. I atttempte a Win 2k reinstall( my mate does not mind); win 2k boot disk are OK, but setup can't find CD rom.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    resetting password

    Had this problem a while back with XP, but had a utility on a diskette that boots up then hacks into the machine to reset any chosen userid password back to blank. Have placed a link below to similar looking product. Should do the trick.

            looking into it

            Hi Rabisco, sorry haven't had chance to look at this but just started now. I have a 'Dr Computer PCSolutions CD' - that contains a load of support utils, one of them being the password recovery thing. I need to see if I can extract the relevant bit to compare with the info you linked, then will get in touch.

              Pops,
              thanks a lot mate; I bought the disk via the link you sent me, and I was able to reset the admin password and get back into the PC.

              Have a good week.
