Anyone know a laptop with a 12" (ish) high-res screen?

(By which I mean at least 1000px vertically.)

I've found this but I think it's around 1800 quid, I don't want a tablet and I hate those control nipple things.

Would love a tiny laptop, but absolutely cannot deal with 1024x768 for coding. Have been looking on and off for years, with little joy.

Apple MacBooks are 13" widescreen which because they're measured diagonally are the equivalent of around 11.5" 4:3.

The screen has a resolution of 1280 x 800 which for me is fine for coding.

And if you absolutely have to, you can wipe OSX and install Windows on there.

Have you tried Dell? I bought my wife an inspiron 810 a few years ago. It cost an extra 30 quid for a 1400 x 1050 scrren. It's a little bigger than you were looking for though. It's 12.1 vertical so about 14 across.

I think they still offer this SXGA+ screen on some models.

My development machine in anm oldish dell 8600 with 1920 x 1200. That would probably be miles too big for you though since it's 17" diagonal. They still offer this screen on some ranges.

This link might take you to a page which lists the screens available on the current models, or it might not.

The Mac screens are all too low-res for me - now they can run windows it's literally the only reason I haven't already got one.

I do already have a 14" Dell Latitude with 1400x1050 - but I want smaller. Smaller!

(Thanks for suggestions so far though.)

Bored today, so I found this:-

claims to be 1400 x 1050 but again might be a bit big. Perhaps you could try a 12" SXGA TFT screen and a pot of evo stick

Aha! Now that's more like it!

Portege range must have been updated since I last looked - lovely. Thankyou.

(29cm x 25cm x 4cm .. will see if that easily fits in the tank bag on my bike when I get home!)

I looked at a wide range of laptops recently and like you wanted a smallish laptop for taking to work/meetings etc. I ended up with a 13" MacBook and stuck 2GB ram in it as it was definately the best laptop on the market I could find. I also link it up to a 19" widescreen for home use and find it sufficient to run Vista + VS 2005 when I need to (but i prefer using OS X )

a bit pricey those Mac Books. £750 for the cheapest and that only has 512mb RAM

Well, they may be more expensive than a £300 Acer or something, but the difference in quality is quite large. They're comparable in quality and price with Thinkpads.

I have a Macbook and a Thinkpad x60, can vouch for the quality of both (though I have a slight bias towards the Thinkpad)
