how do you accept @#%$ card payments online?

    Hi all,

Can anyone here explain the process of accepting payments by credit card? I don't want the PayPal type of crap, but the proper Visa/Mastercard processing online.

I already have the e-commerce site sorted with shopping cart etc and need to know how to process payments via a secure 3rd party at the lowest costs per transaction.

    Cheers,

    DP.

PS. Why does this stoopid ezboard change the word "credit" to @#%$ in the title?

I suggest worldpay - I am going to use them myself when the time is right to unveil my site

Yo! - anather victim = c wilcard any number of letters t in the title. I heard the Milanbot has a bug making this necessary.

I'll be interested in recommendations for this - certainly anything other that PP costs - you'll need to have a fairly high number of transactions to justify the fees.

PP do a cart which you may not be aware of which takes secure credit card payments and confirms back to you that the payment has been processed - costs the same as standard PP - 35p + 3.5% (ish iirc) - we use it on ******* and autobits for a couple of reasons - firstly because we are cheapskates and secondly because you need a business bank account for the others - we keep our retail stuff seperate from our contracting ltds. to avoid having to be vat registered which would cost us 17.5% of profits as our vat inputs apart from stock are virtually zero.

One name that springs to mind is WorldPay for a proper solution.

To find out what people use just go an a shopping spree but don't complete the payment - you'll see the providers on the payment pages.

Try my site if you like but you will find it a much more useful experience if you do complete the payment as you don't appreciate the full functionality of the security features unless you spend over £5k.

          What I really need

          The real question is:

"Which high street bank should I approach in order to secure a Merchant Account?"

I want my own Merchant account rather than World Pay.

The per transaction cost of 4.5% of WorldPay is rather steep.

I produced a large commercial site is 2000, which processed CC's onlie. We used Braclays (the customers choice).

They were really helpful and it was very easy.

AFAIK VISA/MC charges will be 1.5%, the rest might be for better anti-fraud insurance than you will create for your own site. Then again if you sell stuff like software then you won't be loosing REAL things.
