    AntiVirus Advice please

    Gents,

Having been smacked hard by Netsky.Q, I was wondering what AV software everyone here thinks is best.

I was using AVG quite successfully until now.

McAfee's stinger cured my ills, so I am thinking of going for their AV software.

However, you thoughts on the best or maybe best combination is welcomed.

Also - lets get your views on Firewalls as well please. I''m using a single PC onto Broadband - not network PC's - Just my one home PC. Going out to BT Broadband thru their ASDL service.

    Cheers,

    Mike

Had quite a lot of problems when I upgraded a M*A**e virus checker & firewall. It never got successfully updated from the website.

Ended up having to reload Windows coz it (Windows) got deleted somehow.... very bizarre.

    I use Norton.

I use a hardware firewall built into my ADSL box. That way I've got control of what goes in and out.

Also, I use McAffee for virus protection. Both my last 2 contracts use them corporately as well. Whichever you choose, make sure you update it at least once a week, possibly along with checking the Windows Update site.

I know this is probably teaching you to suck eggs, but I recently lapsed into an "I'll be ok" attitude and got hit as well.

I use Mcafee on the corporate network, once its set up OK (RTFM - repeatedly) then its fine, update centrally frequently then get every machine to check when it logs on (I have a local mirror so its fairly fast).

Use McAfee on my main machine & server, AVG on laptop (which scans the others occasionally) the UNIX boxes aren't exposed so I leave them alone, but I should pop something on there. Anyone know a good free AV for FreeBSD / Linux / Sun / AIX ?

I use Norton AV/ FW plus Adaware

They do the job just fine

For email viruses, and most are these days, it might be worth signing up for the virus checking provided by your ISP so emails are virus checked before you receive them.

The Tiscali one is about £7 per year, £12 for virus and spam filter. 'spect most ISPs do something similar.
