I just put all my petrol receipts in an envelope with every other receipt and give it to my accountant to do, thats what they are there for.
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

          I log in Excel

          Total Miles (since FY)

Am I missing something? I don't bother claiming VAT on petrol.
I record the same information except that I bought a "proper" log book from a stationers. Each month I add up the total miles and then pay myself my allowance. I have a speadsheet recording the mileage for that month, the annual accumulative mileage and the amount paid so I know when to change form 40p to 25p.

BTW, you should keep a log for each vehicle used (so I am told).

Do you think people who pack the confectionary into boxes at fudge making factories tell people what they do for a living?
