    So you can see the file but can't execute it ? Curiouser and curiouser.

    Just out of interest. If you've booted off the CD, what are drives C: and D: allocated to ?

      C & D is the HDD partitioned... damn - almost had a working boot CD with my firmware files on by following this http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/wxp/ - didn't follow the
      "If you're Windows XP files are already "slipstreamed" with a service pack you must also copy the win51ic.SPx or win51ip.SPx file.
      This will prevent the CD asking "put the SPx CD into drive A:" during install."
      ... straight away asks for SP2 in A: - disk is finalised and it was using my last CD (wasted 4 already) It will have to wait until morning to buy some more

          Yup went the floppy route - bugger - firmware reports "no compatible hardware found" going to throw the Maxtor out & buy another brand
