How do you remote desktop across the net?

I've used LogMeIn before now:

Firstly it's free, and works over port 80 I believe, so no problems having to configure firewalls, routers, vpns. It was the only way I found to be able to connect to my work pc from home when they'd blocked all normal routes, including sniffing out GoToMyPC (a popular, but not free alternative).

They only start charging if you want to do more than remote connection, such as file transfers.

Change the rdp listening port on one machine (default 3389), then you can rdp to the public IP address and you will connect to one PC or the other, depending on which port number you are using.

Just port forward TCP/3389 on your firewall \ router towards the box on your internal network.

from a client on the Internet hit your WAN IP address.....
