I would say wait for SurfacePhone, its the most eagerly anticipated smartphone ever. Together with SurfaceBook ( which has blown away the Macbook by a few miles ), it has to be the best competition to Apple in many years.

Microsoft phone hardware has been great for a few years now, it's the lack of quality apps that is the problem

Until that changes I don't care how good they are

Who cares about apps? As said once you have GMail and a browser that's most of what you're going to need. I have a couple of other things, but nothing I use a lot.

I use Hotmail rather than Gmail. Microsoft don't routinely read your email, whereas the big G does. Don't want to argue that arguable point though.

@SueEllen For years I was happy to stick with my 2006 LG flip phone. It was one of the smallest available, reliable and indestructible. Still regret leaving it in some ways. Particularly the voice recorder, which I really used - instantly operated by 2 hard buttons, flip, done. My Samsung Galaxy also has a recorder - buried down in the menus, unusable in daylight, requiring much interaction with the numb touch screen - I never use it.

One day we will have phones which are tiny but have a big screen too. Somehow, the screen will be bigger than the phone.

I am just coming up to the end of contract and am looking at Windows for a change, Lumia 950 XL looking good.

Not convinced just yet and if not it'll be a Note 5 if Samsung ever get there heads on straight and start selling them in the UK.

Would be interested in doing some programming on Win 10 on mobile.

Once you have had Windows you will never go back. The phones and apps are solid and work so better. I dont think they match the Iphone for fashion or functionality yet but SurfacePhone will blow the Iphone away for sure. I cant say much.

Nothing is going to blow the iphone away any time soon. Superior design, specs and features are not enough (Sony Experia for reference). Apple has achieved a fashion icon status for one. The integration between products inside their walled garden is second to none. They will have to do a major blunder RIM style in order to star loosing market share.

I have been curious to try a windows phone for a while now, but as a second phone, the convenience of the Apple stuff is just too good for me.
