Dell XPS 15 or if that is too big, the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. I have both. The 3200x1800 resolution is a huge help productivity-wise.

Both are available with I7 CPU's, both lightweight, the Lenovo is 13"-ish and a regularly run to work carrying it.

Windows 8 is fine, and both are touch enabled.

No issues with build quality so far, although I'd probably say the Lenovo is the better of the two.

Can't find anywhere with the Lenovo in stock....

£1400 will put a bigger SSD in it.
£1512 with a 3 year warranty and accidental damage.

I'm sure you could find another £500 worth of accessories if you look hard enough!!!

Is the 2k barrier for VAT for a single item or for a single purchase (that might include multiple items)?

I would advise you to forget Windows 7, it's going out of support next year. So the sooner you can get used to win 8.1 the better.

Lake already stated by others the pinnacle of quality is the MacBookPro although you will have to install the Windows additionally so it's not exactly out of the box.

Plenty powerful, fantastic display and wafer thin.

Also, if you can get it from John Lewis, accidental damage cover is £100 for three years which is second only to Dells next business day offering.
