Some. I tend to spend the weekend meditating and doing yoga to resolve the negative Karma from the working week.

I use a local accountant - quite literally 10 minutes cycle ride from where I am. Last time we had a face to face meeting was a few years ago when I started and since then it's been all email but there's still a certain comfort in the local aspect.Originally posted by John77 View PostI'd assumed it would be better to have one close to home, I'm likely to be moving around the south every 6 to 12 months with a fair bit of working from home. Ill have a look at the recommendations thread thanks all !
Don't just go on recommendations from this forum. Meet/speak with a few accountants and choose someone who you are comfortable with. You can even stagger the 'interviews' and tap them for advice along the way. Be sure to ask what they will need from you and what they will do for you, as that does vary and is as much about what help (or direction) what you want/need too.
Make sure they already have a good number of one man contractors on their books, get them to explain optimum salary/dividends, allowable expenses, director's loan and other stuff you see mentioned on this forum even if you understand it the range of opinions will be telling.

There is an account recommendation thread discussing issues about the pros and cons of local accountants. Check the finance section.

Unless your local accountant is a contracting specialist I would recommend an online service, although its not beyond the ability of most to do your own accounts, there are a few (me among them) who do

Why local? Chances are your first gig will be miles away and Accountants don't work weekends as they are keen Rotarians and spend those days trying to get into the Masons...Originally posted by John77 View PostNewbie here hoping to start first contracting job in dec. great wealth of knowledge on here loads to think about!
