Having the skills and relevant experience gets you the interview. From then on attitude is the biggest factor.

big ticket clients can work against you as much as for you depending on the role.

No, it's more about whether you have the skills and experience that the client want. Sometimes specific industry exposure is required, although I personally find that annoying with some roles.

In addition, you need to have the right attitude. Your expectations of a role should change, as should the way you behave and expect others to behave. You are now expendable and expensive resource.

As a one time hiring manager, it never bothered me.

    You've worked where?

    Hey everyone,
Im looking at making the move to contracting, however my employment history lacks any bluechips / recognisable names. I worked for 15 years for a small business and then spent the last 4 years at a Certificate Authority with a world-wide presence, but who's name is not well known, despite their >35% chunk of the market and Major bluechips counted among their clients.
While I realise I wont know until I try, My question is, in your opinion, am I likely to get a contract with out big names on my CV, assuming of course that I can prove I have the skills to do the contract.
    Thanks In advance.
