It is a very low probability very high impact scenario - IMO worth making sure you covered for 15-20 cents, if that. Of course position of those manufacturers is obvious $0.20 * 10,000,000 boards is $2 mln USD: just enough to pay annual bonus to CEO who must have approved that kind of saving.

Yeah but don't forget 99.5% of their users don't need it and don't want to pay for it.

Bastards are probably saving 15-20 cents per board by not including second BIOS.

I tend to buy Gigabyte boards as they have two bios chips onboard - if a BIOS flash goes wrong, you should be automatically 'tripped' over to the backup.

I had an ASUS M32 SLI Deluxe barf on me during a bios update - effing frustrating on a weekend when there is nowt you can do about it except buy another motherboard. I did.

Some of them do - it's usually a high end thing on overclockers boards in case you feck up your BIOS. It's not a "normal" feature.

Send the BIOS chip back to the manf or find someone with a flash programmer. I sold mine about 2 years ago otherwise I would have done it for you.
