    PC dead

I was having trouble with a Maxtor drive and Shuttle bow, so I removed the battery & jumpered the CMOS, put battery back in and now it won't even POST...took static precautions & have taken machine back to CPU,RAM & Video card only config but still won't boot.

Why would clearing CMOS kill it?

Chuck it in the bin and buy a proper computer like an HP Professional Workstation or a Dell Precision or Mac or something.

Seriously though, CMOS might have had timings in it. If you change or default the RAM timings and you have shat RAM, it might not even post. Does it bleep at all or is it completely silent?

You also may have f*cked the mobo if you shorted the +5v rail and ground lines via jumper as some big bastard capacitors are hooked across it.

In some cases problem on IDE connection can prevent PC from POSTing - remove drive and try again without it.

Also change power cable and socket, then look at changing power supply - crap ones may be very temperamental in certain conditions, I had some bad ones here, very annoying.

Put the Jumper back where you originally found it.
