Yes, it works with FTTC so replaces the HH3. Its enabled for 1750mbps with the new wireless ac standard.

I still dont understand how if FTTC delivers upto 76mb what use a device is that is capable of 1300mbps + 450mbps (unless its something to do with bits and bytes!).

After a mornings research I think it is between the netgear 6300 and the asus AC66U...

ASUS RT-AC66U 802.11ac vs NetGear R6300 in Routers

I think I am tending towards the ASUS.

ASUS do free DDNS for their hardware which is one of the reasons it just shades it.

It also supports opendns etc and so has a good level of parental control (if required) to block smut and kick off xbox-live at certain times of the day.

Had a look at that one, looks ideal but it seems (from a few sites) they only allow dyndns.org as the DDNS option. Is that true?

I kind of don't mind paying for dyndns but I don't want to be locked in with only their service for ever more.

It's all I use it for - running on my iMac is the Dyndns updater, notifies them of of any ip changes - to be honest hardly happens now - get the same ip for months. When BT fibre was 'training' it used to change all the time.
Used to do that but decided against it after windows updated and killed the process when I was on holiday, after I had set it up as a service the machine crashed when I was on holiday the year later.

The virgin media superhub is Netgear CG3101D. Has dual band mode, and you can operate at only one frequency at a time. I am currently using 2.4ghz. I can get wifi signal throughout the house and even 10 feet outside, and speeds range up to 6.5MB (over 50mbps) which is not bad for 2.4Ghz.

Apple one is very poor re dyndns, it's possible but a right frig.

I take it the Apple AirPort is only for Apple devices or does it work for other operating systems and devices?
I had all my boxes etc, servers and shiite in the 10.x.x.x range - it's my favourite but the HH forced me to use 192 or 172, 10 is for that BT FON thing, so I had to change all my boxes!

Then I ditched it so can use 10 address but can't be arsed now, even now I still type ssh stek@10.^H^H^H192.168......

No, anything! Has four Gig lan ports too, and a fantastic green LED on the front!
