I've used OpenCart and customized a website for a company. Its a bit in its infancy. Usable - but just try and install a plug-in. Get ready to learn PHP because you need to edit code to install it!
Magento has all the bells and whistles and is very popular. That's all I can say about it. Customising the template is highly technical process involving XML...
osCommerce is generally considered a has-been platform.

I've used both Shopify and WooCommerce (Wordpress plugin), both are great. Shopify is excellent as an all in one solution that works out of the box.

Bump for prestashop - the best from my exp.
Also, there is open cart - lightweight, easy and quick to set up
CS Cart - paid, versatile - also pretty good

I know a guy who's used OpenCart and he speaks highly of it:
"it's powerful & scalable enough to deal with most things, has a very large base of users & thus support forums, has lots of themes and add-on extensions, it has a built in CRM / returns system, but overall it is simple for the client to use following the handover - many systems are scarily complex for end users"

Check out Ubercart as well. Integrates very nicely with Drupal...

OSCommerce can be a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
CubeCart is quicker/easier and the trial version is free. Doesn't need to be paid for until after you reach a couple of hundred orders i think.
Can even install and host for you at a reasonable price :-)

Best eCommerce software
Hi,
I'm considering spinning up an online shop as a plan B. I've searched around a bit and osCommerce seems to do most of what I want. Does anyone else have any recommendations? I presume that quite a few people on here must do the same.Tags: None
