Being budget minded I'm looking at the HTC Windows 8S

But I have heard of some problems with random rebooting and lockups with the GMail client on the Windows 8 Phones. Which is why I'm gonna wait for 8.1

The screen looks much better on the 920 though and it was wireless, charging. There is not that much difference in price a few bucks a month so will go for the 920.

It's a 4G phone with a company that is only known because they can offer 4G. Do you really need to ask?

Havent got the 920 yet but my Lumia 710 is pretty good. The OS is very very slick compared to Android. Apps eco system might get better over time. But the hardware is very good, very stable and battery lasts days instead of hours.

It's quite large, I've got small hands so I often find I use two hands to type messages or emails. The battery life is ok, I'm charging once a day though I do use the email, wifi etc often.

The screen is very good and large enough to replace my kindle for casual reading. The OS runs smoothly, everything feels instant.

The included Nokia apps are pretty good, including the free mix music that you can listen to and download. Nokia groups music by mood, type etc and call this "mixes". A limitation is that you can only skip 6 songs within an hour.

The handset feels pretty solid, honestly I can't stop playing with the thing. I've downloaded pretty much every app that I think would be useful in some way, skype, twitter, linkedin, zite etc. All run well.

Negatives, only one, I had to reset to factory settings. I hope that it's a one off and just a blip. On the positive side everything was backed up on Skydrive.

So it's a damned good phone and if you can afford it then I recommend it.

Not used a W8 phone myself but they look very good (I'm too ingrained in iOS territory to switch), and anyone that I have spoke to has raved about the OS
