There shouldn't be any adverse effects from creating partitions on the raid volumes, you can treat them like any other disk.

I thought the Windows software RAID worked on partitions, rather than physical disks. So you could have two of the partitions mirrored, but then two unmirrored crap partitions for double the space. But don't take my word for it.

There is no existing raid, just 1 (slightly iffy sounding) drive. I'll use acronis to migrate the OS/boot partition on to the new disk and then copy the other data across. Swap out the old drive for the 2nd new one and add this as a mirror.

Make sense? Question is about whether partitioning is of any benefit under raid1

Numpty Raid 1 & Partitions question.

Current C: drive has started making noises and so is gonna get swapped out sharpish. The setup I have now is 1 partition for Win7 and progs, 1 for docs and 1 for general crap.

I've got myself two 2Tb drives that I'm going to setup as a mirror. Question is, Can/Should I setup the same partitions again or will this screw with the Raid setup? I will be using the Win7 raid controller functionality rather than a hardware one as I can't see any setup options in the bios.
