Close enough from the names on the tickets. Anyway, signed up for hostpapa. Good reviews and, from quality of support info so far, looks excellent.

Sorted - ish.
It seems they have firewalled using gmail, so have to revert to their crap mailer which can take 2 days to arrive with headers full of errors. mysql "localhost" doesn't work anymore and have to specify it explicitly.
Can't wait to take my hosting elsewhere before they "improve" something else. Plonkers.

Cheers. May be the problem but hard to find anything out. Hosting support is pathetic, either they are total dimwits or they don't comprehend English.

Have they moved the database off to another server?
With my hosting provider you don't connect to a database on 'localhost' but to some other server, which in turn works out exactly which physical server the database is sitting on.

Hosting upgrade causes port/server connect failures
Wonderful. My hosters have been "improving" things again and now the callback routine from Worldpay is not working so we/customers are not getting email details of the order and neither are they being stored in the database.
Without going into coding details I am using the freeware phpgmailer script to send emails via gmail. This was fine before but now generates:
Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465 (Connection timed out)
Even more oddly, this simple line:
$con = mysql_connect("localhost","mydatabase","mypassword ");
Now generates this error:
Warning: mysql_real_escape_string() [function.mysql-real-escape-string]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in etc
Anyone got any clues why an upgrade to the hosting package should cause these problems? Some permissions not set or what? Cheers for any ideas.Tags: None
