On the Sony DVD and TV that I have, on the DVD remote there is a button near the top right of the remote to toggle between controlling the DVD and controlling the TV.

I once had a matched video player and telly and there was an extra option button to hold while pressing the other buttons which controlled the device it talked to.Originally posted by VectraMan View PostA related problem was that with both on, the TV remote operated the Blu-Ray player's options rather than the TV, so I couldn't even get at the TV settings. Madness. Maybe it's because both are Sony.

I eventually found an "HDMI control" setting on the Blu-ray player. Seems to work more sensibly now.

Think of the telly as a big LCD display for the CD player.
Sorted.

HDMI stupidness
I have a Sony Blu-ray player I bought last year to replace both my ancient DVD and CD players. But now I've gone and bought one of those new-fangled flat screen tellys and connected it up with HDMI.
Now when I try to use it as a CD player, I switch on the Blu-Ray player and the TV switches itself on, even though I don't want it to. So then I find the TV remote control and press off, and it decides to be "clever" and switch off the Blu-Ray player for me too.
The only way I've found around this is to unplug the HDMI cable, or unplug the telly from the mains.
Does anyone know if this sort of "intelligence" can be defeated?Tags: None
