AT+CMEE=2 turns on verbose error messaging (a bit more informative than "ERROR" but not strikingly so).

AT+COPS=1,2,"23433" selects Orange using the numeric option.

AT+COPS=1,1,"ORANGE" didn't work for some reason, gave

+CME error blah blah.

SIM with call barring on, gave another +CME error network unavailable



And when you get someone to unbar the calls, then the thing dials.

At last!


Next problem: find a line that you can dial into from outside, since all lines are not created equal in this tuliphole & the receptionist gets a bit irritated with a modem phoning in.

CPOL is preferred operator list.

COPS is operator selection, 0 means automatic.

The datasheet is one page of A4 with some telephone numbers/website addresses/rates & charges.

However A Man Wot Knows about stuff has come back to me to say that the SIM needs to be enabled for CSD.

Which is what does the ATDT1234 stuff apparently.

And it's 12p/min.

Ho hum.

What do the instructions / data sheet say?

My only exposure to this is tinkering with the virtual com ports on my laptops 3G modem, I seem to remember there is some sort of extended Hayes AT type command set, but I guess if you have got it to dial out and connect to something you knew that already.

I'm guessing if it's connected you need to start sending data over it. I don't know how you do that, whether you need to write whole IP packets or PPP encapsulated ones or what. Would be interested to find out though.

Anyone know what I do next?

The modem thingie apparently initialises, it apparently dials out, then nowt.

The only debugging I have is two pcs monitoring rx & tx.

The eseye thingie apparently gives an internet address for the thing.

What good is that to me?
