Gsm modem thingie.

Specifically, in General, this:

TELTONIKA|TM1|MODULE, GSM/GPRS, DUAL BAND | Farnell United Kingdom

As mounted on a pcb by my own fair claws.

:eyes

with

ESEYE|ES-DEV-OUK-0602|SIM CARD, DEVELOPERS, 6 MONTH | Farnell United Kingdom

as the sim card.

Duly registered & apparently ok.

Anyone know what I do next?

The modem thingie apparently initialises, it apparently dials out, then nowt.

The only debugging I have is two pcs monitoring rx & tx.

<Zeity in "why the feck does this happen to me?" mode>

The eseye thingie apparently gives an internet address for the thing.

What good is that to me?

<ZG in "I can't fecking understand this crap" mode>

What do the instructions / data sheet say?

My only exposure to this is tinkering with the virtual com ports on my laptops 3G modem, I seem to remember there is some sort of extended Hayes AT type command set, but I guess if you have got it to dial out and connect to something you knew that already.

I'm guessing if it's connected you need to start sending data over it. I don't know how you do that, whether you need to write whole IP packets or PPP encapsulated ones or what. Would be interested to find out though.

Me too.

The datasheet is one page of A4 with some telephone numbers/website addresses/rates & charges.

However A Man Wot Knows about stuff has come back to me to say that the SIM needs to be enabled for CSD.

Which is what does the ATDT1234 stuff apparently.

And it's 12p/min.

Ho hum.

Gosh.

The lack of progress on this is rather striking, all in all.

:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::throw::throw::throw:

And I think the translation in the RTFM from the original Lithuanian suffered somewhat.:suicide:

By the end of this I may have half an idea of WTF is going on.

But then again...:freaky:

Yes.

It would appear that it's not logging on to the network.

I wonder why.

Which of that enormous list corresponds to Orange in the UK?

Dunno.

Try

+COPS=?

I think should give you a list of available (as opposed to preferred) operators.

Once you have that, I think

+COPS=1,0,whatever

should connect with the network.

I am making all this up by the way, I spent an afternoon tinkering a while ago but have no real clue what I'm on about :wink

That makes two of us then.

:rollin:

Oooooo.

Gives +cops: (2, "ORANGE","ORANGE","23433")... BLAH BLAH BLAH.

And just in case I lose it:

United Kingdom :

23420 = Hutchinson 3G (3) - United Kingdom
23410 = O2 - United Kingdom
23415 = Vodafone - United Kingdom
23430, 23431, 23432 = T-Mobile - Virgin - UK (Also use MNC 31 & 32)
23433 = Orange - United Kingdom
23450 = Jersey Telecom GSM - United Kingdom
23455 = Guernsey Telecoms GSM - United Kingdom
23458 = Manx Telecom Pronto GSM - United Kingdom
23400 = Virgin 3510i
23400001 = Virgin

Gosh.

AT+CMEE=2 turns on verbose error messaging (a bit more informative than "ERROR" but not strikingly so).

AT+COPS=1,2,"23433" selects Orange using the numeric option.

AT+COPS=1,1,"ORANGE" didn't work for some reason, gave

+CME error blah blah.

SIM with call barring on, gave another +CME error network unavailable

And when you get someone to unbar the calls, then the thing dials.

At last!

Next problem: find a line that you can dial into from outside, since all lines are not created equal in this tuliphole & the receptionist gets a bit irritated with a modem phoning in. :rollin:
